Thinking Ahead

Thinking Ahead

Ponder the path of thy feet and let all thy ways be established- Proverbs 4:26

The, to do-list! You have heard of it but do you have one? Maybe you have a honey-do list, that’s where your wife helps you know what is important to her.

I was on the road for a run the other day and I was thinking about the importance my to-do list. People in leadership positions need them and most have them. Some people make things happen, some watch things happen, and others don’t know what is happening. Anyone with a to-do list is someone who makes things happen, at least on paper. There are three types of people who have a to-do list;

  1. Those who make a to-do listThese people are prudent, they think ahead and there is much to be said of that! …The prudent man looketh well to his going. Proverbs 14:15

These people take time to think ahead so they can save time when trouble comes or at least be ready for trouble. They are aware that a happy life is a prepared life! This crowd may also be called the dreamers because they can tell you what needs to be done but until it is accomplished it is just a dream.

2.Those who complete a to-do listThese people are disciplined. It is one thing to write it down it is another to execute it. Paul said, I therefore so run, not as uncertainly (he knew where he was going); so fight I, not as one that beateth the air ( He knew who the enemy was). 1 Corinthians 9:26

These people are the achievers. They get things done they are not easily distracted. They are focused to finish the task at hand. They make great employees and they will enjoy a degree of success but they can be rigid and hard to get along with. They will struggle discerning an important distraction because they tend to feel what they are doing is most important.

3Those who allow a to-do list to be interrupted with a greater priorityThese people are wise, they know when to give up something good for something better. They will not sacrifice the best for good! There will be times when your spouse, your boss, your children, or some urgent need comes up while you are working your to-do list. You better know when to stop or carry on. This crowd knows that people are most important in life. They are able to discern an important interruption from a time robber.

These people are leaders. Our Lord Jesus was like this. Can you see him walking to Jairus’ house to heal his daughter only to be interrupted by the woman with an issue of blood. She is healed but he takes time to bring her to strengthen her faith in him. Our Lord knew when to stop and when to keep moving regardless of what pothers thought- They did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem. Luke 9:53

May the Lord give us wisdom to know the difference!
