Your Appetite Gives You Away!

Your appetite gives you away!

But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire. 2 Peter 2:22

There is no conversion without true repentance. There are many who can name a day they were saved or can testify of coming to an altar but the reality is manifest in their lives. My dogs never had a problem eating their regurgitation, especially if it was a meal they devoured moments before. As gross as that sounds that is the behavior of many professing Christians who claim to be saved. They return right back to the sin they enjoyed before their profession (gambling, fornication, lying, idolatry, alcohol, etc…) as nonchalantly as the dog to his vomit. Kind of makes you wonder what kind of salvation they got?

Then there is the sow that returns to his mire (Bible word for poop!). This person can get cleaned up when he is around the Christian crowd but he/she would rather live in their poopy life style when they are removed from positive peer pressure; foul music, bar hopping, immorality, dressing like they are costarring an MTV show. What’s amazing about this, is that it doesn’t stink to them! To a born again Christian who has been given a new nature through the Spirit of God this kind of behavior is grievous to his/her conscience!

When our children make decisions for the Lord we ought to be looking for spiritual fruit rather than a recited prayer. Don’t get me wrong, I am happy about hearing them talk about receiving Christ as Savior but time will tell if it was a conversion or rather just a conforming to their environment. I know so many kids who grew up in church who can recite the plan of salvation but have absolutely no spiritual fruit and they truly appear to enjoy the vomit and poop of this world more than the things of God.

You know to the dog, the vomit isn’t vomit! It is just another appetizing meal! To the sow, the poop isn’t poop, it’s just a happy experience with the rest of the pigs! You might ask yourself, what do I really have an appetite for? Who do I really enjoy hanging out with? Your answer will tell you a lot about your salvation.
