How Alcohol Affects A Person?

Proverbs 23:21/29-35 Let the Bible speak and see how relevant it is in today’s culture!

.29- who hath woe? Who hath sorrow? Who hath contentions? Who hath babbling? Who hath wounds without cause? Who hath redness of eyes? This is the description of a person who spends too much time drinking alcohol! You can identify them by their behavior and eyes. Drinking not only brings sorrow but it deceives the drinker to think that more will remove the sorrow.

.30- They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. This is the answer to verse .30 and this is in reference to alcoholic wine verses non alcoholic wine.

.31- Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth its colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.  This is a warning and it also explains the process of fermentation.

.32- At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder. This refers to the immediate effect alcohol has on the drinker. The comparison with a serpent and an adder is not a good one. Do you think getting bit by a snake is going to make you feel better?

.33- Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things. The unbridled lusts of the heart begin to rule the thought life when you are under the influence of alcohol. People know that drinkers can be taken advantage of. That’s why salesmen prefer to discuss business over cocktails and other alcoholic beverages.

.34- Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast. The sickness of a drunkard is compared to sea sickness where nothing feels stable.

.35- They have stricken me thou shalt say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: When shall awake? I will seek it yet again. This describes the hangover and the addicts solution to the hangover-More alcohol!

It is no secret that too much alcohol can destroy your liver, pancreas, memory, etc… but did you know that even moderated drinking can damage the brain? In an article from the Guardian, Dr. Doug Brown of Alzheimers Society stated that moderate alcohol consumption can impair cognitive function. The telegraph news has an article that states, a glass of wine a day is enough to damage the brain and could raise the risk of Alzheimers. There is enough information out there for anyone who is really interested to discover abstinence from alcoholic beverages is the safest and healthiest way to live.

10,000 people are killed on US roads annually from alcohol related accidents. 3million crimes a year are alcohol related, 40 percent of all violent crimes are alcohol related, these would include; rape, assault and battery, and murder.

It all starts with one drink!
