Lessons learned from the corn fields

I was running down Elizaville Road one day and the corn was unusually high for early July. It was over six foot. It was like the Lord was telling me to pay attention.

The corn stalks in that field had a stability that wild corn stalks don’t have. Wild corn stalks that have grown in an untilled field may get some height but don’t have stability because they are not insulated by any corn around them. I was looking at a huge field and there had to be thousands of corn stalks in that field. On their own, they were weak to the elements but together the strongest wind couldn’t hurt them.

I was told that strong winds may lay a field of corn over for a while but when the sun comes out they rise back up. Is that not the case with the Christian who is in fellowship with other believers in his local church? Strong winds may come but the Son will help us stand straight!

That field corn would produce because it would be pollinated by other corn. It was close enough that the wind actually helped pollinate it rather than harm it. A wild stalk of corn does not have that advantage and neither does a Christian who is out of fellowship with other Christians.

Christians need other Christians to help them reach their potential. Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend. Proverbs 27:17

Much of our stability is based on our fellowship with other believers. Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. Hebrews 10:25
