Music The Devil Can’t Stand

Music the devil can’t stand

1 Samuel 16:23 “…David took and harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.”

God gives us an example of the power of good music. Saul was a depressed man burdened by an evil spirit but when David played the harp the evil spirit left him. There is music the devil can’t hang around. We discover it is not just the lyrics that make music good because in this passage we do not read about David singing only playing the harp. In 2 Chronicles 23:12-13 we find a wicked queen exposed as she hears good godly music. Play some godly music in a public setting and watch how people react. In 2 Chronicles 20:22 “And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.” Here the Lord delivers his people when they sing and praise his name. There is power in good music may God help us to find and feed ourselves on music that edifies us in the faith rather than just feed our flesh. It is becoming of the child of God to speak to themselves in psalms and hymns, and spiritual songs (Ephesians 5:19). There is a variety of good music that may appeal to Christians but the acid test is; does it motivate me to please the Lord? The kind of music you listen to most will affect your spiritual growth. If it only feeds the flesh you may be struggling with victory over sinful strongholds. See Galatians 5:17-24
