He Is Still God In The Valley

“He is Still God in the Valley”

1 Kings 20:28 “And there came a man of God, and spake unto the king of Israel, and said, thus saith the LORD, Because the Syrians have said, The Lord is God of the hills, but not God of the Valleys, therefore will I deliver all this great multitude into thine hand, and ye shall know that I am the LORD.”

King Ahab did nothing worthy of God’s blessing upon him. Yet the Lord was going to allow him to experience a victory over the Syrian army. The only reason for this victory is because the Syrians thought God was limited in his rule and reign. They thought God was only the God of the hills. Many Christians have this belief as well. A Christian may not come out and make that confession but the way they act when things are going bad would make you think that God is only God in the hills. We need to remember that when we are in the valley that God is still God in the valley. If you are saved you can be sure that if you honor God he will honor you (1 Samuel 2:30). The child of God can walk in confidence in the valley just as they would on the mountain top. It was in the valley David killed Goliath. It was in the fiery furnace that three Hebrews enjoyed fellowship with Jesus. The psalmist said “yeah, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” (Psalms 23:4). If God was angry with the Syrians about limiting his power how much more should he be angry with us who know of him when we wine in the valley. The Lord loves to be recognized as the God of the valley because it is there he becomes more evident to the lost and hurting in this world. We need to start praising God when times are tough. We need to make a greater effort to rejoice in the Lord when we are in the valley. You may be struggling with finances, family, fitness, fatigue or faith but rest assured the Lord is not limited by your valley. He may be waiting for you to exercise a little faith for him to set you free. Remember Paul and Silas in the Philippian jail? They were beaten and shackeled but they started to sing and praise God! You say, “why would they do that?” Because their salvation was secure in Christ and nobody could take that away. They were free in spirit because they were focused on the eternal not just the temporal! You know what God did for them while they shouted “He is the God of the valley”, he loosened their shackles, opened the prison doors, and brought revival to that prison. The world doesn’t have to know about your valleys when you are confident that the Lord does. Christians who are always telling everyone how awful their life is are just making things worse for themselves. Those people may get help from man but they miss out on help from God and can expect to be in the same condition again. He is still God of the valley too! So rejoice in the Lord always and again I say rejoice! Oh, by the way the Syrians discovered this but it was to late they had to experience defeat.
