The Great Hinderance to Stability

The Great Hindrance To Stability

A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. James 1:8

Great buildings are structures built on an unshakeable foundation. Christians need stability in their lives if they are going to be a positive and powerful influence for Christ. They need stability for their own wellbeing. To be unsure of one’s self is a character flaw that is difficult for anyone to trust. Joe Montana was a great quarterback because he was confident about his decision making ability.

When a man is known for changing  jobs, changing wives, and changing homes, he is not someone you can trust. “…meddle not with them that are given to change: for their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?” Proverbs 24:21-22

Grass does not grow on a rolling stone and trust is not created by those who are known for changing their mind.

Be sure when you make a decision you can live with it. What God gave you in the light don’t doubt in the dark! Big decisions should be made after much prayer and a multitude of counseling. After you have made your decision get ready for it to be tested. When I came to Lebanon to start a church I did it after much prayer and counsel. God made it clear to me that I made the right decision but the honeymoon eventually wore off and the struggles came. After seventeen years I have no regrets about staying. Adversity always follows the honeymoon. But rather than divorce, get counsel and determine “I shall not be moved”. Most successful people are faithful to the big decisions in life.

If a man is changing jobs every year it may be a character flaw not the will of God. If a man is changing churches often it may be a character flaw not the church. Those who move easy are always a target for the devil. If the devil can get you to question your decision about work, marriage, or church just because it gets difficult he can get you to leave as well. He will always tempt you with greener pastures.

The man who gets ahead and stays ahead is the man who can weather the storms of life. He is the man with longevity in his marriage, job, and church. He is the man who is not doubleminded about the important decisions in life. He is the man you can trust when he says, I do!

Stability is a sign of maturity! The time will come you that you have to grow up and quit being tossed about with every wind of doctrine or I should say difficulty. If adversity always causes you run from the problem rather than endure it or solve it you should think about Proverbs 24:10 If thou faintest in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.
