The Most Important Battle!

The Most Important Battle!
In Exodus 17:8-16 we have the story of Moses, Aaron and Hur going to the top of a hill while Joshua and the armies of Israel fought against Amalek. As Moses held up his hand Israel prevailed in battle but when he let down his hand because he grew weary Amalek prevailed. Aaron and Hur noticed and decided to help Moses his hands up. The result was Joshua discomfited Amalek, that’s a good Bible word that means weakened them. You can figure out the typology of that on your own. The question worth considering is what made the biggest difference in the battle? Joshua’s valor or Moses lifting his hands? Where was the battle really won, on the top of the hill are down below? The answer is not difficult, it was the prayer at the top of the hill not the courage below. I am not discounting courage, but I am making big of prayer as God wants us to see. It is interesting that in 1 Timothy 2:8 the scripture says, I will therefore that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. The battles in the pulpit and the pew must be won in the prayer meeting. You can do many good things after you have prayed but you can do nothing of lasting value until you have prayed. Jesus said in John 15:5 … without me you can do nothing. How do we get Jesus involved in the battles of every day life? We pray! Some Christians are like the church of Laodicea who didn’t know Jesus wasn’t even in the building. Their indictment was they felt they had need of nothing. Great would be their fall. Like Samson of old, they wist not the Lord had left him. If you want victory in your marriage, pray; if you want victory over a wayward child, pray; if you want victory over your own besetting sins, pray! Real prayer seeks the Lord’s Word and rests upon His promises! Will you get weary? Moses did. Will you battle your own flesh? Yes, but the blessing will come to the one who perseveres in prayer cleaving to the promises of God. If your burden is too heavy ask others to pray with you but don’t expect others to pray any more than you. I believe we will see from Heaven that every great conquest for Christ on earth was preceded with a conquest in the prayer closet!
