Tug-o-War

Tug-o-War

Have you ever played tug-war with a mud pit in the middle? It makes the competition a little more exciting, there is nothing like watching the other team go head first in the mud. In order to have a good tug-war team, you need a team that will work together and that has a good strong anchor holding the back of the rope.

There are people we know that are in a spiritual tug-o-war and the devil is pulling them in the mud. We have the privilege of pulling the rope of prayer for them and making a difference in their lives.

Abraham pulled the rope of prayer for Lot and he was delivered from Sodom- Genesis 19:29

“And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow…”

Elisha pulled the rope of prayer for his servant so he could overcome his spiritual blindness and fear- 2 Kings 6:17

“And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee open his eyes that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man…”

We are called to pray for others because our prayers truly make a difference!

We should pray for others and especially our leaders; 1 Timothy 2:1-2

“I exhort therefore, that first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and all that are in authority; that we made lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”

Remember in this tug-o-war match the devil is trying to destroy lives and our prayers create great resistance to his purpose. If we pray diligently we can see God reward our efforts- Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

Are you pulling the rope for our kids? Are you pulling the rope for your spouse? Are you pulling the rope for your church? There is room on the rope dear Christian for you to pull, will you pray?

Pray specifically, pray often, and pray knowing your heart is right with God. You are a powerful anchor on the rope of prayer when you are right with the Lord- James 5:16 “…the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

Only heaven will reveal how often we have escaped danger because of someone else’s prayers!
