“What Kind of Future Have You Planned For Yourself?”

“What Kind Of Future Have You Planned For Yourself?”

Proverbs 29:18 “Where there is no vision the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.”

If you’re not looking ahead in life, there is a good chance, you’re not going to like what you run into. People don’t accidently get out of debt nor do they accidently lose weight. You sure don’t accidently get right with God. Successful people look to the future through the mind of God. They believe if God is for it, then they can get behind it, but if God is against it then they get away from it. Do you know God wants to bless you? He wouldn’t have made so many promises to you if he didn’t. Here is a prescription for accomplishment. First get “Happy” by keeping the law of God. Second dream about the kind of future you could have with a little effort. Remember God is no genie who is going to grant you a wish just because you rub on the bible. You have to set some goals. You may not achieve all of your goals but you can be certain that the goals you don’t set you won’t accomplish! Set reasonable goals. Goals that you know with a little planning and effort you can accomplish. It will take some self denial and discipline but the goal accomplished will be worth it. In football the offensive team does not go for a touchdown on every attempt, most often they are just trying to get a first down. If they can move the ball 3 yards every attempt they will be a scoring team. You can’t win if you’re not making progress. Know where you are going. Know what you want to accomplish. Have a vision of where you want to be a year from now, five years from now, and even twenty years from now if the Lord tarries and you do too. Keep that vision in front of you constantly. What we look toward we go toward. I heard about the teenage boy who just got a new Camaro. As he was driving in town to show off to his buddies, these girls from a beauty pageant were standing near a shopping mall waving to every one that passed by. This young man got to looking at them and waving back, and before he could get his attention back on the road he was on the sidewalk in front of them. We gravitate toward that which we think about! We need to set our sails in a way that God can blow upon them. If God be for us who can be against us? People don’t get what they want because they don’t know what they want. People with goals live in anticipation. They are able to enjoy the journey not just the destination. The goal keeps them focused. Without a vision the people perish say’s the wise man. There was an old country church that had in wooden letters across the platform “Where there is no vision the people perish”. A young man got saved and surrendered to the mission field in that church. He went off to college then India for some thirty years and God gave him a fruitful ministry. He came home on furlough to visit the old country church of his childhood. The building had been boarded up and the church has disbanded years earlier. He walked up to the withered front door and pried it open to get inside. Cobwebs were all over the pews and the paint was peeled back on the walls. He began to reflect on the glory days of the church as he looked up the “W” had fallen from the quote on the platform. It now read “here there is no vision the people perish.” Where are you headed? What’s your vision?
